President's Message

The IMA Ann Arbor Chapter is a chapter of the worldwide association of accountants and financial professionals working in business called the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA).    We, like our global organization, are committed to helping you – and our more than 200 members (125,000+ members globally) – to expand your professional skills, better manage your organization, and enhance your career.

The past 12 months have been unprecedently challenging and unsettling both economically and socially, including here in the Ann Arbor and greater Washtenaw County area, as well as the United States and internationally. We have weathered the worst of the pandemic, multiple vaccine rollouts, a presidential election with controversy, and local protests over various social or political issues.

It is part of the job as management accountants to help organizations thrive by analyzing data to help them make wise decisions going forward, which has been extremely hard this past year. We will likely still see disruption in the future from Robotic Process Automation, a more remote workforce than prior to the pandemic, Blockchain and Distributed Ledgers, as well as many other items. With A CMA and a CSCA we can show our colleagues the value of these certifications as they teach holders to adapt to ever changing times, and the requirement to constantly upgrade our skills via CPE.

I am hopeful that the worst of the pandemic is over, and I am looking forward to being able to see you all in person again soon, however the Chapter Board has decided to continue virtual chapter meetings at least through this calendar year. This was a difficult decision for the chapter board as we tried to balance the desire to network (including our own personal want to connect with you, our local IMA membership) with the uncertainty of the virus and the potential changes to the current social distancing and gathering requirements. While we have made this decision for the rest of the calendar year Annual Fall Conference, we are expecting that we will go back to in person chapter meetings in the new year.

I would like to thank you for taking time to read this, and please stay safe and healthy.

Evan Scarbrough
